What is a trail horse challenge?
A trail horse challenge is a course of obstacles and tests that challenge your horse to be confident, independent and trusting of its rider.
The goal is to help the horse become a trustworthy, reliable, willing and safe partner in trail riding.
Challenges:
Most of the challenges are obstacles and are similar to tests you and your horse might encounter on the trail, such as
- crossing bridges
- crossing water
- stepping over fallen logs
- ascending and descending steep hills
- carrying and/or dragging items
- navigating tight corners and and narrow paths
The challenges differ depending on the location of the event. Please see the Events Page for a complete list of the challenges for that day.
Accomplishments:
The horse earns points for each challenge, depending on the level of acceptance. Each challenge is worth a different number of points, depending on its level of difficulty. At the end of the event, a grand total of points is tallied for each horse.
